Shaldon Kopman has worked in many capacities in the fashion industry. He began as a model then worked many years as a stylist before becoming a creative director and designer. He started Naked Ape in 2010 as a bespoke brand and four years later he opened its flagship store in Rosebank, Johannesburg. Kopman has branched out and offers ready-to-wear menswear as well, but Naked Ape continues to represent exceptional craftsmanship and luxury. The fabrics are ecological, natural fibers including hemp and bamboo in addition to the more conventional cotton, wool, silk and linen. Kopman has dressed a number of celebrities ranging from Samuel L. Jackson and Orlando Jones to Barack and Michelle Obama. Kopman is a fashion icon in his own right, having been named Best Dressed Man in South Africa for 2006 and 2007 by GQ magazine.
