Melisa Poulton is originally from the Namibian capital, Windhoek. She describes her style as dramatic, bold and powerful. Her personal motto is Freedom, Strength and Independence, which she draws upon when she designs. Poulton has been interested in fashion since she was a little girl and watched the movie 101 Dalmatians. The scenes from Cruella de Vil’s fashion studio filled with sketches, designs and glamour made her immediately fall in love with the idea of fashion and becoming a fashion designer. Poulton’s designs include ready-to-wear, evening dresses, bridal, sportswear and traditional African attire. She has designed for many well-known artists from Namibia including the singers Freda and Lize Ehlers. In 2015 she dressed and styled the hosts of the Annual Namibian Music Awards show. In her work to support the fashion industry in Namibia she serves on the board of directors of the fashion council of Namibia.
